Apple of Eris Charm

A sterling silver apple coated with 18ct gold vermeil. Also available as a pendant. The inscription reads "To the most beautiful".

     The Golden Apple is synonymous with Eris, the ancient Greek goddess of discord. With the Golden Apple made for her by the the craftsman god Hephaistos, she caused chaos at the wedding of Peleus the horse-tamer, a mortal, and Thetis, daughter of Nereus, a lesser god of the sea. The uninvited Eris rolled the Apple into the wedding party and when the inscription was read, it was immediately claimed by three goddesses, Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena. A mortal, Paris, Prince of Troy, was brought before the assembled deities and asked to judge the most beautiful of the three claimants. He chose Aphrodite, and as a reward was given Helen, the most beautiful mortal in the world. Unfortunately she was married to Menelaus, King of Sparta, brother of Agamemnon, King of Argos, and in the ensuing war the city of Troy was destroyed. Amongst the many casualties and fallen heroes was Achilles, son of Thetis and Peleus.
